The postpartum period can be hard. You're adjusting to a whole new schedule, with a new life. Your body is different and doing crazy things. Your hormones are whack and it usually involves very little sleep. There are however some things to look forward to. We've compiled a list of 8 of them:
1. Your Toes.
There they are again! You can see them. You can touch them. You can paint them. You can put lotion on them (although I highly recommend pretending like you can't and enlisting someone else.) You can shave your ankles and all kind of other fun stuff you haven't been able to do for weeks.
2. Sweet Stomach Sleeping.
As a lifetime stomach sleeper, I looked forward to the day I could sleep on my stomach again from the first night I couldn't. Despite all the wake-ups, my first night back to my belly was a magical one.
The amazing nectar is yours again! Even if you're breastfeeding, as long as you aren't taking any medications that suggest not drinking, you're all set to have a glass with dinner!
4. Maternity Pants.
One of the best things about being pregnant is discovering maternity pants. You mean there are jeans with stretchy waists that help to shape my new found #mombod instead of cutting into it? They are most definitely still acceptable to wear after baby. Right? Oh well.#noshame
5. Adult Diapers.
Ok so maybe this doesn't seem like a positive but I remember the first few days after having my daughter these were the most amazing, comfortable, convenient, fantastic invention ever. Plus, you have a new win the next time you're playing "Never Have I Ever" with your childless or male friends.
6. Being Told How Great You Look for Having Just Had a Baby.
You're going to hear it. Hopefully a lot. And if you aren't, find someone to tell you because you do look great!
7. Free Food.
If you have good friends and family like I did, you won't have to cook for a month. Take advantage of it and if no one volunteers, don't be afraid to ask.
8. Your Baby!
It took me long enough to get here right? If you're postpartum that more than likely means you also have a beautiful bundle of joy in your arms. They're kind of loud and they don't quite understand how awesome sleep is yet, I know; but I promise in the end they're worth every bit of it!
